The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has withdrawn all police security from 29 political leaders and dignitaries, including former chief ministers, which has drawn sharp criticism over the government.
A statement was issued by the elite force yesterday in which former chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti, former interior minister and Qaumi Watan Party chief Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Awami National Party provincial president Aimal Wali Khan and ANP central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, PML-N provincial president Amir Moqam security personnel had instructed to report back to the headquarters.
According to the statement, ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) National Assembly member Anwar Taj, Senator Ayub Afridi, PTI Member Provincial Assembly Sumi Falak Naz, former DG NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Farooq Awan, Nawab of Dir Nawabzada Amir Khan, renowned Dr Naeem and Police personnel have also been recalled from Dr Iftikhar.
The Elite Force statement did not give any reason for withdrawing security from these leaders and personalities, but while the decision is being strongly criticized on the one hand, on the other hand, some people appreciated the decision of Elite Force and the government.
ANP’s Amir Haider Khan Hoti has said that the return of security by the government is a vicious attempt to put pressure on our leadership. He warned the government that if anything happened the only responsible would be PTI Government.
Zafar Iqbal, an senior journalist from Peshawar, said that the decision to withdraw security from political leaders was commendable, but also asked the police whether security personnel would be returned from retired police officers. Apparently they are busy with their security but in reality these officials are doing the housework of these officers.
Citing a retired DIG based in Peshawar, he said that he had 18 policemen currently doing housework for him, including security. Has been given the responsibilities of the kitchen and is also handling a few financial matters while two officials are taking care of his son’s lamb.
