The Lakki Marwat District Local Tribal Jirga on Thursday passed a resolution against the renaming of Lakki Marwat in a jirga, which was jointly approved by the members of the Jirga and local leaders of political parties.
Hisham Inamullah Khan, a member of the Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from Lakki Marwat district and the provincial minister for welfare, had asked Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in a petition a few days ago to change the name of Lakki Marwat district to “Mohammadiya Marwat”.

Dr. Fazlur Rahim Marwat, a well-known writer, researcher and honorary director of the Bacha Khan Research Center in Peshawar, a resident of Lakki Marwat, said that there seems to be a conspiracy behind the name Lakki Marwat and political motives behind it. They only wants to adds its followers on the name of religion:”Where there is a conspiracy, it brings religious reason because people are religious in nature and then they think that if we bring this thing [name], the government will accept it and people will vote for us in the future.”
Hisham Inamullah Khan considers the letter “Laki” to be the Hindu name of Diwan-e-Laki and is 184 years old, but Ayaz Mandokhel says that the famous Pashto poet “Khushal Khan Khattak” mentioned it in one of his poems about two hundred years earlier from a Diwan. Has said:
