Khattak dance is now limited to four walls

Khattak dance, a popular dance, is now less common. Earlier, the dance was performed in public gatherings, but due to the current situation, it is now seen only on special occasions. Earlier, this dance existed in every tribe. Apart from Khattak tribes, Yousafzai, Chitrali, Mehsud and Wazir Bhatni tribes also valued this dance.

The Khattak tribe is a large Pashtun tribe. About 100% of them live in Pakistan. The Khattak tribe lives in Akora Khattak, Nizampur, Karak, Kohat and other parts of the country. Khushal Khan Khattak is one of the reasons for the fame of this tribe. Whose poetry and warfare became equally famous. Khattak dance is the most famous identity of the Khattak tribe. This dance was also given importance by the British. Thus it also received government patronage. In this way, it became more popular than other Pakhtun cultural dances.

Khattak dance is a must for any major festival and the arrival of foreign diplomats. Khattak dance has now taken the form of a national dance. Khattak dance is performed with swords. It can also be dangerous to perform this dance without skill. This dance fills the audience with excitement.

The history of Khattak dance is very old. In the old days when war was fought with swords. The Khattaks were a warring tribe. Stories of Khattak battles and bravery were still popular. Khattak fighters used to dance Khattak on the way to war. Before fighting with the enemy, they used to warm themselves by dancing with each other with swords. Enemies were also terrified.

The enemy was so frightened that he wondered how those who danced with the sword would become fighters.

Khattak dance has 12 steps. The number of participants is also fixed at forty. In the first step, the dancers gather in a circle. The circle is completed with faint music. The speed increases when the circle is completed. Along with this, the music is also enhanced. Then the dance begins with fast music to a certain rhythm.

There are three types of Khattak dance which include Shah Dola, Bhangra, Bubble. The hair of the participants in Khattak dance is shorter than other dancers. In the first step, a servant performs. In Bhangra, each member has a sword in his hand. After Derabi step, Bhangra step comes. And dance with a handkerchief in the other hand.

The other members of the dance, which begins with the drum beats, wait. The next step is called Laila. In which four members take part, all of them have swords in their hands. This step is also formed in the form of a circle. The next step is called Barghoni. Which is a difficult step.

In this step, the member draws with three swords, waving two swords in the air. The third sword is in his mouth. This is followed by other steps, sometimes in groups and sometimes individually. The last step of Khattak dance is bubble in which no member has sword in hand. It is danced in a circle. Songs are sung and music is played after the end of the song and this dance continues.

The ongoing Khattak dance is now confined to the walls.
