Karbala: The lesson of blood & gore !

Today mark’s a blessed day, the day of Ashura(10th muharram).

Just 48 years after the death of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, his grandson Hussain was killed in the Battle of Karbala.

The goriet Battle of karbala is very important in Islamic History. All Muslims mourned globally the day of Ashura.

Before pouring lesson into mind, one must know the history of this Islamic event.

After the 4th Caliph, Ali was assassinated in 661. A power vacuum was emerged, leading to Muawiya assuming role as Caliph. Despite opposition from part of the ummah, who wanted Hassan, son of Ali who was the grandson of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, as the caliph.

After years of conflict, Hassan signed a peace treaty with Muawiya to avoid further bloodshed. This treaty stipulated that Muawiya would not appoint a successor after him.

Moreover, in the year 670, Hassan was assassinated leaving his brother Hussain to take on his duties.

After rupturing the same treaty in 680, the Muawiya’s son Yazid begun the umayyad dynasty.

With every passing years, Yazid spread his power through corruption, bribery and the use of violence.

To legitimise his rule, Yazid demanded allegiance from Hussain.
Hussain refused as Yazid was corrupt and known to be brutal.

Hussain was constantly forced to flee mecca under the threat of imprisonment and assassination.

He had received thousands of letters from kufa, Iraq. Pledging support for an uprising against Yazid.

In the days of brutality and savagery, Hassain said;” I am ready to fight for the sole goal of seeking reform of the ummah of my grandfather, the Prophet of Allah. I want to enjoin good and forbid the evil. ”

Hussain departed with his family and companions with kufa, after hajj.

As they approached kufa, Hussein’s caravan was intercepted bya a battalion of Yazidi army.
Woefully, the army cut off the access to water for Hussain and his family.

Leaving the men, women, children, to suffer from the days of thirst in Iraq’s blistering desert heat.

The army demanded allegiance from Hussain. Despite all odds, he refused to back down.
On the night before Battle, Hussain told his companions that they were free to leave. But they pledged to stand beside him in the face of certain defeat.

More importantly, on day of Ashura, Hussain delivered a powerful speech reminding opposition that he was still the grandson of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

When the Battle commenced, Hussain companions fought group by group and martyred on the battle field. Eventually Hussain was left with a handful of remaining family members and then they too were killed. Even, a 6 month old infact was killed in Hussein’s arms. He was left with no one, had buried his child and after valiantly fought in the battle field he was surrounded by opposition soldiers.

He was brutally attacked from all sides and beheaded.

The tents were ablaze with the women inside and whole family was captive by yazid family.
Indeed, The Battle of karbala shook the Muslim Ummah all over the world.

It is worth mentioning that the same incidents happening everyday. The traynny and maltreatment occur almost every day in the different parts of the world.

Almost everywhere, people face atrocities, Injustice and oppression.

Dishonesty has suppressed the honesty, Morality has degraded, Amorality has upgraded. We’ve lost the ability to differentiate between good and bad.

Karbala is issuing a clarion call every year to the people, to not accept this system. It instruct us not to silent against tyranny, injustice and oppression. Instead, we ought to stand against all troubles fearlessly.
