PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Members of Provincial Assembly Haji Sirajuddin Khan and Humaira Khatoon of Jamaat-e-Islami Friday submitted call for attention in the Assembly Secretariat against the increase in public transport fares.
Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Haji Sirajuddin Khan and female MPA Humaira Khatoon through the attention notice said that self-imposed increase in public transport fares on local and inter-district routes by transporters has irked the general masses.
The notice said that whenever the prices of petroleum products go up, the owners of transport on local and inter-district routes automatically increase the fares, while the transporters do not reduce the fares after the fall in oil prices.
It added that they offer that their vehicles run on CNG.
Similarly, in case of increase in CNG prices, the same transporters increase the fares and when the prices of CNG go down, then the transporters do not reduce fares saying their vehicles run on diesel.
It said that in this situation, the people, especially the poor, who depend on public transport for daily commute, are badly affected.
The Speaker Provincial Assembly has asked the Minister for Transport to inform the House of the real facts and the government should take notice of the self-imposed increase in fares adding that stern action should be taken against those transporters involved in the act.
